Information:
Our morning
Skill Builders
classes offer
exciting, fast-paced opportunities for students who wish to move ahead in their
reading, writing, sequencing and math skills. Spanish will be offered twice a
week.
Specialty Theme Sessions
immerse students
in science, geography and art, enabling them to explore the world around them in
new and fascinating ways. Theme sessions are extended during the noon hour with
a daily literature connection story and discussion.
Our
afternoon activity program
enables students
to learn and grow in a positive, fun atmosphere with various organized
recreational activities.
In our
Renaissance Kids Enrichment Classes,
students delve into a spectrum of subjects to enhance a deeper understanding &
apprehension of art, computer skills, science, technology and more.
Swimming:
3, 4, and to be Kindergarteners will enjoy Sprinkler Mania each Wednesday,
students who have completed Kindergarten and
above will go to city pool Tuesday and Thursday each week.

June 2 - 6:
Machines and Things that Go: Children are fascinated by machines of all kinds, especially those involved in
transportation. Their fascination of transportation and machinery will be
extended into art projects focusing with travel on a bus, in a car, boat and
plane travel. Among the many activities students will participate in car
wheel painting, egg shell boats and paper airplane competitions. Each day
students will have a Literature Connection with such favorites as The
Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant and The Doorbell Rang by Pat
Hutchins.
June 9 - 13:
Science Discoveries:
Students will really get their hands involved this week as they
investigate oobleck...is it a solid or liquid? They will also discuss
conduct experiments and projects looking at density, adhesion and cohesion and
acids and bases. Certainly a favorite will be the Literature Connection of
Dr. Seuss's Bartholomew and the Oobleck!
June 16 - 20
What's Up -- Beyond the Sky
This
is the week to learn all about all those things above us such as the clouds in
the sky and the stars at night. The rings of Saturn, the bright tail of a comet,
dust clouds and many other objects found in space are the inspiration for awesome art
activities for kids. Children will have fun creating a spectacular dust clouds & smudge art,
have balloon rocket races and create their own alien ship. Literature
Connections this week include Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi
Barrett.
June 23 - 27 Light...and Color!: Art will take center stage this week
as students use different medias and techniques to create original art.
Students start the week with salt painting and end with a creation of a
kaleidoscope. One special Literature Connection this week will be
Fireflies! by Julie Brinckloe

July 7 - 11 Devoted to Dinosaurs and other Strange Things.
A
full week devoted to a subject close to every child's heart ... dinosaurs and
other strange things! You’ll be a paleontologist exploring and examining fossils
and learning about dinosaurs. Entertaining activities help highlight interesting
facts about dinosaurs, marine life, and other fascinating animals
porcupines, spiders, and frogs. Projects will enhance the daily animal
study with such fun activities as a dinosaur arm mask, spider painting and
jumping origami frogs. Literature Connections this week will include the
Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle, Anansi the Spider by Gerald
McDermott and the Can I Have a Stegosaurus Mom? and Can I Have a
Tyrannosaurus Rex, Dad? both by Lois Grambling.
July 14 - 18 Let’s Pretend: Calling out all actors this week as
students learn to dramatize with various props and puppets they create.
One favorite Literature Connection will by Here Are My Hands by Bill
Martinm and John Archanbault.
July 21 - 25 Your Five Senses: Students will spend time
experimenting with their senses. It should be great fun as the students
study touch by painting with their feet or hearing by taking a wind walk.
If you are a kid or a kid at heart you can't go wrong studying touch with slime!
Literature Connections this week will include Mirandy and Brother Wind by
Patricia McKissack and the Foot Book by Dr. Seuss.
July 28 - Aug. 1 The Magical World of Bubbles
When you look around you, especially on a sunny day, you can see many different
colors and different shades of colors. This week we will get involved in the
science of light, color and bubbles by combining interesting information with a
multitude of fun projects such as putting each kid in a bubble, floating
bubbles, learning how to pop-proof a bubble and do sculpture with bubbles.
Literature Connections this week include a favorite, Planting Rainbows by
Lois Ehlert.
Aug. 4 - 8 Insects,
Bugs and Creatures that Crawl
Kids will enjoy learning about
all different types of bugs as they are creative with art activities about
honey bees, caterpillars, butterflies, snakes and dragonflies. Children will have fun
creating their honeycombs & honey bee home, crawling caterpillars, wiggly
snacks and a dragon fan. Literature Connections include The Very Hungry
Caterpillar by Eric Carle and The Spider and the Fly by Tony
DeTerlizzi.
Aug. 11
- 15 Wet, Wonderful Water
Come play in the water and build rivers, dams, ponds, and waterfalls.
Explorations into siphons, pumps, sun showers, and find out why the water is
blue, how do some animals in the deepest part of the ocean make their own light,
and what makes some oceans salty? Kids will create edible aquariums in a cup,
shell art with spiral patterns and mollusks, sponge painting and sea creatures
with pinchers. Literature Connections this week include A House for
Hermit Crab by Eric Carle and Humphrey, The Lost Whale, a true story
by Wendy Tokunda.

Kids Enrichment Classes:
Creative Kids Beginning Drawing : June 2- 13
Join in
a step-by-step instructional art class designed to build confidence in your
child’s abilities. As with any activity, basic components and techniques must be
taught before a skill can be developed. Art is no different! Each week,
these beginning classes will couple core art concepts with kids’ creativity and
imagination, enabling them to produce their own mini-masterpieces.
Practical Life Skills: June 16 -
27
Students will have increased self-esteem
and self-responsibility with life skill lessons as they will work on
verbal/nonverbal communication, interpersonal positive social skills, learn what
is empathy, exhibit cooperation and teamwork skills,
develop critical thinking and decision making processes, learn to protect
themselves from harmful influences and be empowered to take charge of themselves
and our planet's future.
Charm School :
July 7 - 19
Join us
as we learn about Fashion Personality , Being a Friend, Respect for Others,
Being a Lady, Introduction Etiquette, Hands & Skin, Posture and Walk, Scrub &
Brush Set, Telephone Manners, Table Manners, Inner Beauty, and In Step with
Poise ending with a fashion show and reception on our last day.
World of Words: July 21 - August 1
Students will participate and develop
a personalized vocabulary word list based on their interests and upon facets of
their daily lives. Each student will create a "My World of Words Journal"
and then use those words to create original written creations from short stories
to limericks.
Rocking Rockets Blast
Off:
August 4 - 15
Be a Junior
Astronaut and blast your way into rocket science. Students will work this
session on building things that they can launch including airplanes with a
variety of materials refining design with test flights. They will also build
rockets made of recycled materials and ones powered by chemicals that you may
have eaten. Learn about parachutes, streamers, helicopters, and other types of
recovery systems culminating with a launching finale!
