Students aged 3, 4, and 5 after September 1 of the school year
participate in a half-day program designed to include opportunities for growth
in social, academic and physical development. The half day program includes
Language Arts, Math, Discovery ("hands on" Montessori approach to Social Studies
and Science), Fine Arts (Music, Drama, Art), Physical Education, and Computers.

Lower Elementary
Kindergarten and First Grade are both all day programs designed to
challenge and excite each student. Students make tremendous
educational growth during the year and this growth forms the basis for all
future endeavors. With departmentalization and teacher specialization,
students encounter a variety of activities and "hands-on" experiences along
with methods of instruction. The core of the program is an intensive
Language Arts Curriculum comprised of 3 separate 55 minute classes, Reading,
English, and Spelling/Handwriting. Reading is taught through a phonics
program with the ability to group students very specifically to their
reading ability and experience to date. Weekly use of our Library encourages
students' participation in daily after class reading. English
uses classic literature as a springboard for composition and grammar.
Spelling reinforces phonics and structural analysis instruction and
completes the triad of daily instruction in the written and oral language
necessary to communicate in our society. Math is the second area
of intense effort with the use of concrete manipulatives to form the basis
of understanding and knowledge. A class highlighting Social Studies
and Science concepts allow students opportunities for discussion and
enrichment about themselves, their family, community, and world about them.
Fine Arts (art, music, and drama) are interwoven into the curriculum to
encourage individual development and awareness. Computer classes
instruct students in basic keyboarding in conjunction with educational
software reinforcing classroom activities.

Departmentalization, teacher specialization and high expectations
continue as a basis for all classes. Intense concentration and effort
is continued in Reading, English, and Spelling as these form the basis for
all communication. Phonics instruction is continued along with
specific skills concentrating on comprehension and vocabulary development.
Appreciation and understanding of "literature" through award winning
Newberry novels encourage even a reluctant reader to become involved and
motivated with interesting class discussions and "hands-on" projects.
Composition skills are further developed as an extension of the literature
experience. Mathematics is the second area of intense effort.
Students are able to develop strong arithmetic skills in addition to
abstract problem solving techniques. Social Studies and Science allow
students opportunities for exploration, experimentation, and explanation of
their world. Fine Arts (art, music, and drama) are interwoven into the
curriculum to encourage individual development and awareness.
Enrichment classes such as Spanish, Mythology and Latin allow students
opportunities for enrichment and exploration. Computer classes
instruct students in basic keyboarding along with multi-media programs and
introduction to computer programming and robotics culminating in regional
and state competitions.

Language Arts and Math continue to form the cornerstone of all
educational efforts with increased expectations and requirements in
recognition of ability, experience and knowledge. Students pursue
individual and group research projects using a variety of resources
culminating in presentations given orally, written, audio/visual or through
the use of multi-media. Social and Natural Sciences integrate
into the curriculum to enriched student's appreciation and awareness of the
world, understanding of it's history and past accomplishments on which the
future will build. Fine Arts (art, music, and drama) continue to be
interwoven into the curriculum as avenues of individual expression.
Enrichment classes such as Spanish, Mythology and Latin allow students
opportunities for further exploration and knowledge. Computer classes
enable students exploration into various individual and group multi-media
projects in addition to basic programming. Computer programming is
further enhanced through annual team robotics culminating in regional and
state competitions.
